1 Line In Line Adapter

A 1 line in line adapter is a type of DSL filter. Like all other adapters, a 1 line in line adapter is meant to be used for the purpose of converting a device to a new or modified use. In this case, the adapter is used for making phone and internet connections more convenient to use. Before we are able to understand the working of this type of adapter, let's look at how a DSL filter works.

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a type of internet service that is provided through land line telephone connections. Using such standard telephone lines, an internet provider (ISP) is able to deliver internet channels of high bandwidth. During the installation of such an internet connection devices such as a DSL model and DSL filter would be required.

If you have opted for a DSL connection with the installation of a filter, a modem and a filter would be provided by the ISP. A DSL filter is a small and rectangular in shape, and both it's ends are fitted with RJ11 connectors. This filter can be directly plugged into the wall jack instead of the telephone line. The telephone line and the DSL modem are then plugged into the other end of the filter, enabling the use of both internet as well as the telephone connections.

There are several types of DSL filters, such as 1 line in line adapter, 2-line in line adapter, etc.

What is a 1 Line In Line Adapter?

A 1 line in line adapter is a type of adapter that is meant for use with single line telephones. It is also designed for use with other phone line devices such as answering machines, fax machines and modems. Such a filter, once installed, isolates the phone line completely from the DSL service. In the process the DSL connection is 'filtered out'. This provides a filtered single jack that is meant for voice communication devices.

In this process, any kind of erratic disturbance or impedance from a telephone equipment will not interfere with or interrupt DSL communications. In other words, the frequencies that are meant to be used for DSL services should ideally not be interfering with voice phone calls and vice versa. A 1 line in line adapter is able to accomplish this.

  • Overall, a 1 line in line adapter DSL filter is a box-shaped device small enough to fit into the palm of your hand.
  • Some adapters may have only one output meant for the phone line while others have two, one each for the phone line and modem.
