In Line FME Adapter

An adapter is a device that is basically designed to 'adapt'. There are numerous uses of an in line adapter in electrical and electronic devices and home and industrial appliances. The basic use of this device is to connect two pieces of equipment to be able to work with each other. From mobile phones to electrical plugs, in line adapters are a cost effective solution to make the use of devices in our every day lives more convenient.

Specifically, when the ends of two devices are incompatible with each other, an adapter can be used to make them compatible. One use of an in line adapter is be able to connect coaxial cables that have different connecters (FME, SMA, N, etc.) to each other.  A coaxial cable is a type of electrical cable that is used for the transmission of radio frequency (RF) signals. Let's look at the types of in line FME adapters in more detail.

In Line FME Adapter

An FME (For Mobile Equipment) adapter or connecter is a type of in line adapter. It is primarily used with coaxial cables in any type of mobile installation or application. In other words, it can also be described as a miniature RF coaxial connector series with a passband of usually about 0 to 2 GHz. An in line FME adapter could be male or female.

An FME female adapter is designed in such a way that when it is installed on cables, it permits the cables to pass through spaces or holes with tighter access so that it could reach the location of the equipment to which a connection is desired. This desired place of connection is usually where an in line FME male adapter can be found. The male adapter of the suitable equipment connector series is then fitted on to the FME female adapter.

Inter-series in line FME adapters are also widely available. Sometimes, the FME male connector is made available as a cable connecter and the female adapter would be present on the desired place of connection.

Types of In Line FME Adapters

In Line FME adapters are generally used when coaxial cables terminating with FME connectors need to connect with those terminating with other different types of connectors. Some of the types of these adapters are:

  • FME-Male to SMA-Male Adapter: This type of in line FME adapter allows a connection between cables that have an FME-male connector and an SMA (SubMiniature Version A) male connector on either of their ends.
  • N Female to FME Female Adapter: Used when one coaxial cable has a Type N female end connector and another has an FME female.
  • N Female to FME Female Adapter
  • FME Male to Mini UHF Female Adapter
  • FME Male to N-Female Adapter.

Several websites that deal with electrical and electronic products stock in line FME adapters for sale at great prices. They also provide customer reviews  and product descriptions for these adapters. FME adapters can be purchased from these websites or from local electrical stores.
