Duplex In Line Adapter

Any device that serves the purpose of effecting an operative compatibility between different parts of an appliance or more than two devices is an adpater. It is an adapter that allows a connection between devices of different sizes and types that may also be incompatible with each other. An in line adapter also does the same, but ensuring that the passage of a signal or electricity or any other material is in line with the rest of the devices.

What is a Duplex In Line Adapter?

A duplex in line adapter is a type of adapter which has an additional feature. While normal adapters are equipped to connect one device at each of their ends, a duplex in line adapter differs in the number of connections in permits. This type of adapter has a connection at one of its ends, to a source. The other end allows the connection of two different devices. In other words, there can be two different outputs from one single input.

Such an arrangement is of immense use in a variety of applications such as telephone adapters, DSL adapters, fiber optic adapters and more.

Uses of a Duplex In Line Adapter

Some of the uses of a duplex in line adapter are as follows:

  • Duplex wall jack adapter: This is a type of telephone adapter that is used to allow the addition of a telephone set to the exisitng one. Hence, two modular phones or a phone along with an accessory can be installed quite easily with the help of this device. In other words, instead of plugging just one phone to a phone jack, you can plug in two, or even one phone and an answering machine or fax machine.
  • Duplex Fiber Optic adapter cable: Such cables are usually used in networking installations. The fiber optic duplex adapter is used more often at the enterprise level. There are several different connecters available that tend to different requirements such as FDDI adapters, SC adapters, ESCON adapters and more.
  • Duplex in line adapters for DSL filters: A DSL filter is a device that is connected to a phone wall jack at one end and the telephone instrument at the other. The purpose of connecting this device is to separate the DSL signal from the voice to avoid inteferences. A duplex adapter can then be connected to the DSL filter. With this a phone instrument as well as a DSL modem can be connected to the same wall jack.
  • Duplex cigarette lighter adapters: Such adapters are used to be able to charge mobile phones and other devices in cars via the cigarette lighter. One end of this device plugs in to the car's cigarette lighter and two chargers can be plugged in to the other end of the adapter. This allows for the charging of two phones at a time. Hence the power source of the vehicle's cigarette lighter is made good use of.

There are several more ways in which a duplex in line adapter can be made use of. These devices are very inexpensive and can be purchased at local hardaware or electronic stores, and also from many websites on the internet.
